United Methodist Men

Workin' the pits- cooking the "Q" Hey, someone has to supervise- Where there's smoke at Fairfield,
for the Fall Barbecue and Bazaar. Tom Smith and C. A. Thomas there has to be good barbecue close by!

The Methodist Men of Fairfield were chartered and officially recognized by the Methodist Church on Nov. 1, 1957. Originally designed as a way for men of the church to get together and share fellowship with one another, the present incarnation of the Methodist Men are also active within the church and community as a service organization.

Meeting on the last Thursday of each month, the men of the church share a meal, a devotional program and coordinate any business that is presently in the works. During the fall and winter months, we are privileged to partake of Charlie Boyles' world-famous oyster stew. It is absolutely amazing at the attendance for these meetings!

The Methodist Men of Fairfield are well-known for the pit-cooked barbecue smoked over their own pits at the church. At our Fall Barbecue and Bazaar, there will be 8 pits filled with over 200 shoulders, 35-40 hams and 25-30 loins cooking for all they're worth. In addition to the Fall barbecue, there is a smaller spring barbecue in which only pre-placed orders are cooked.

The Methodist Men are developing quite a reputation for their charity golf tournaments, raising $16,000 and $18,500 in the last two outings. It is hard to believe that a relatively small group of individuals could accomplish that. Actually, individuals could not accomplish that- that's why the Methodist Men are always working as a team.

While all of their service work is beneficial, the most outstanding feature of this group of men is their love of Jesus Christ, their Lord and Savior. After all, what is more important than that?
